Biography

Tamara Gerwel is a director in the Corporate and Commercial Department at Glyn Marais Inc. She specialises in mergers and acquisitions (both public and private), restructurings, joint ventures and other corporate transactional work including funding arrangements (including preference share funding). She acts for financial institutions in addition to listed and unlisted corporate clients.

Tamara is dual qualified to practice as an attorney in South Africa and a solicitor in England and Wales.

Prior to joining Glyn Marais Inc. in 2013, Tamara practised as a solicitor in the London office of Dorsey & Whitney for seven years, specialising in UK securities law and mergers and acquisitions. Her areas of expertise include IPOs and secondary offerings (rights issues and open offers) both on AIM and the main market of the London Stock Exchange. She is also experienced in pre-IPO placings and other funding arrangements.

Tamara is deeply committed to a non-racial, socially just and democratic society, and recognises the power of art to contribute to the development of, and engagement with, local communities. She is a director on the board of the Suidoosterfees, a premier arts festival in Cape Town, and remains active in the mentoring and empowerment of youth through all forms of art.
